Martin (Marty) Leal is a local artist who was born and raised in San Antonio. While utilizing pencil, ink, oil and acrylic paint, he specializes in many forms of art including portraits, Texas inspired landscapes, surrealism and narratives. In 1998 he graduated from UTSA with a BBA, and also studied art and architecture. Soon after, he began displaying his work locally at IV Art Space in the Southtown district. By 2003, the house his father grew up in on the West Side of San Antonio was redesigned and renovated by Marty, his father and his brother in order to create and display art by him and his brother. This art venue was called the Arbor Art House.
Other places he displayed paintings during this time were the Presa House Gallery, SOHO Wine Bar and the Caverns Inn in Boerne, Texas. Marty currently works at his family CPA firm and continues to display his art work at the Leal Art Gallery located inside his office building which he designed and built in 2008.
Marty has recently created official art for the Fiesta Commission 60th Anniversary commemorative poster (2019), Mission San Jose Tricentennial (2020), Hemisfair Civic Park grand opening commemorative poster (2023), San Antonio Zoo New Entrance commemorative poster (2023), and the Fiesta- Taste of the Northside inaugural art poster (2024).
Other art has been created and donated by Marty for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, Peacock Boys and Girls Club- Mike Taylor Barbecue,
Salvation Army -Malik Rose Bowl, Lupus Foundation, and the Christopher Hard Scholarship Fund.
